Can you brand a dog

Be patient and let it get cold enough so your brand looks good when it's all said and done. Clean clipped ribs and hips will need 25 - 35 seconds. Thin ears will need about 35 seconds, and thick ears will need around 45 seconds of branding time.

You'll need at least two people, and three is even better. One person must brand, while the other two hold the dog. Sometimes you need one guy to hold the front end of the dog while the second person holds the dog's back legs tight.

Just depends on the dog. When we branded my Brandy dog, she curled up in my lap and acted like she was getting a relaxing massage. The dog pictured here thrashed around like a Marlin out of water and peed all over my leg. I don't think the branding hurt so much as she thought she was getting beat up by three people, and I'm here to tell ya, she wasn't going down without a fight LOL!!! I'm telling you from experience that it don't hurt. I wear the same iron as my dogs - I belong to them as much as they belong to me.

They'd give their life for me; to return the favor is the least I could do. As far as location of the brand goes, I brand both ears, and I do not clip the ear hair before I do. If you are branding ribs or hips clip the hair first. Soak the area to be branded with the alcohol another reason I prefer alcohol over acetone. In the case of an ear, lay it on a towel that is on a flat, sturdy surface. The iron must be pressed very firmly to the animal, and must be gently rocked back and forth, and side to side while branding.

Don't try to push the iron through the dog, just keep firm and steady pressure, and keep an eye on the time, or better yet, have another person time the branding. I lay my watch next to us so any one of us can watch the second hand. You'll know when it's done good enough because there will be a hard as plastic, perfect imprint of your iron on the animals hide as soon as you lift the iron away from your dog.

I sat down with her over breakfast to talk about the business of being a pet influencer and how she avoids clients who treat their pets unethically. This interview has been edited and condensed. I used to work as a lawyer and was pretty unhappy. I quit my job and started a handbag company [with bags] that had phone-charging capabilities. Being an entrepreneur is pretty lonely, and so about five years ago, I got a dog to keep me company, Chloe.

She quickly amassed this large following. Within six months, she had thousands of followers. People really liked her personality because I dressed her up and had her sitting next to me in business meetings. She was always smiling and was a sweet, adorable ball of love, and her personality translated through the photos and by the way I wrote the copy. Pretty soon, pet brands like PetSmart and Purina were reaching out to send us stuff and invite us to parties.

It seemed like this was a perfect way to match my legal background and obsession with pets. I also connect them to the right companies and people. A lot of it is acting on behalf of owners. It was a mess. Now I have relationships with both clients and the brands, so I have a standard of how to run things, and I take commission.

We take an influencer that has already proven themselves. The way pets become famous is all different, but what they have in common is that they stand apart to develop a following. Ella Bean is basically a fashion blogger in dog form. The fashion community loves her. Food bloggers love him. Harlow and Sage , who are these dogs that just cuddle all the time. Wolfgang , who is a guy that takes in all these senior pets and is the sweetest guy to follow. We just signed this cat, Bruno , who went viral because he is fat.

Like, really fat. Yes, we work with pigs , monkeys , hedgehogs. They need breaks, they get tired, and so we have to explain that to brands all the time. When I started the agency, my first big focus was meeting with brands and convincing them that working with pet influencers made sense. I got a lot of looks. But Chloe would come to all the meetings, and so she helped sell the idea.

They would look at her and see and feel a connection. The first brand I worked with was Dyson [which makes vacuums]. I had to convince them, but it totally made sense for me because dogs shed, and we clean up after them. How many treats can this trunk hold? I would be interested in tattooing pups to keep litters straight and date of birth. I think it would keep alot of b. Just never been around it. Thanks for the comments, keep them commin. Best of wishes Jason Sorensen.

I use a 3in iron, and stick it on the left rib on most dogs, I do have a Walker, she is branded on a left front shouler, in a black patch. I agree with the teory that an "iron" is plain to see, it might make guys think twice before stealing a dog.

I brand the rib, cause it's hard to "cut out". You can see the brand pretty good in this pic. Time is the only thing thats diff, some dogs are thick skinned and we go alittle longer, thin skin dogs, alittle less.

Times I can't tell ya, cause I'm still trying diff times on diff dogs. You can hold a freeze brand alittle long, and "burn it". The brand will be just like a hot iron. Works good on white dogs or horses. I freeze brand all my dogs once they prove themselves, I do their ears cause when someone aproaches the dog they lift their ears towards them and the person can see the brands, I hope you're not talking about hot brands.

Lepcur, I'm pretty sure we are talkin about freeze brands, at least thats what I thought. Bar M, you can freeze brand, and hold long, 30 seconds or so, it will "scald" the hide, and heal bald, like a hot iron. Very visible on a white dog. Tatoo's are great, just can't be seen at a distance. I am thinking that a Freeze Brand and a Micro Chip are in order. Don't know much about either on Dogs. We have that Iron registered in Wyoming on the right shoulder for horses. As Duane said the longer you hold the iron the more effect you have on the hair.

To kill the pigment and turn the hair white on a horse we hold seconds.
