The drive is very quiet and burns discs as fast as the other burners that I have. To make the deal even sweeter it came with free shipping. Cons: The burner came with firmware version 4L06 so I had to flash it to the latest version 4L To flash the firmware you have to go to the LiteOn web site and download the smartpack utility to locate and download updated firmware versions for this drive.
Normally I would complain about the firmware being old, but version 4L08 was just released in July which really isn't bad all things considered.
Overall Review: The burner was enclosed in a bubble type envelope that provided it with the best of protection. I was extremely pleased with the way that it was packaged. I was very pleased with this purchase and believe that anyone looking for an inexpensive drive would be pleased as well. I installed this drive on a system running Windows 8 - 64 bit operating system. Pros: 1 Purchased the same model in the past and is still running today.
The advantage of buying this model again is the firmware upgrade. Asus uses the same Lite-On drive but puts its name on them. Asus also uses its own firmware on their drives and has never come out with a firmware upgrade. Overall Review: Great drive for the price. Lots of Pro's as listed above. By Lite-On over the same Asus drive and other re-branded drive as you will get the upgrades only with the Lite-On model even though the other re-badged drives are the same physical drive. Overall Review: Just shy of 11 months the drive is bad now.
A CD I tried to load would not load correctly and after multiple failed tries I tried the CD in my laptop and it worked, then I tried a different drive in my desktop and it read fine so this drive is bad now in under 11 months.
