In addition to his San Miguel 5 appearances, Doc tours regularly with his own Big Band and continues to perform with symphony orchestras all over the country. Doc performs on a S. Shires Company in Massachusetts. The factory has 25 craftsmen who are professional, working brass players and totally understand what is involved in making great brass instruments.
The S. Shires Company features a line of trumpets that includes the S. Doc continues to make regular visits to the factory. Severinsen quit drinking and started going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. He has remained sober for over 60 years. During a studio recording with Severinsen, fellow trumpet legend Chris Botti revealed an anecdote from the first time he met his trumpet hero. But even if not a suit, Severinsen always made sure to stand out with his clothes on stage.
Despite a health scare or two, Severinsen is still touring, playing gigs, and teaching the next generation of trumpet players. And in speaking about his newest relationship with fellow trumpet player Cathy Leach, Severinsen also made a profound observation that also pretty much sums up his philosophy on his career and life.

I've always called him the most complete trumpet player who's ever played the instrument. Any mere mortal will say, 'That's enough of that and I'm going to sit in a rocking chair and just take it easy,' but not this guy.
And he said, 'Fine. You get up and sit in your high chair for one hour, or you can practice the violin,' so I got up in the high chair and I sat there. And the next day and the next day and the next day, and, finally, my dad says, 'Well, alright, what you want to play?
