What kind of show is shameless

And yet despite that, it remains grounded in all the ways families relate to each other, both good and bad. Every viewer can see a little bit of themselves in the members of the Gallagher clan, which is what makes Shameless timeless. MORE: Hey listen! Source: Deadline. Sony looks back at PlayStation 5's remarkable first year and releases the list of top-played PS5 games based on gameplay hours.

Every episode is another crazy situation that one or more of the Gallagher six get into. Watch them grow and learn how to make their way in life with what little they have. The Gallaghers. Absolutely, Wildly, Unapologetically Shameless Season 1. Did you know Edit. Trivia Unusual for a television show, creator John Wells has a very strict policy of no scripts allowed on-set. The actors and actresses have to know their lines by heart. Quotes Mickey Milkovich : Alright shithead, this is like the two hundredth time I'm calling and you not picking up!

User reviews Review. Top review. Fluid direction, crisp script, helmed by trio of fine performances. Note: I have not seen the UK version. I wasn't sure what to make of the first episode of Shameless. I wasn't sold on the characters and the direction seemed directionless. In fact, it wasn't until the third ep that my eyes were opened. It's as if the actors have found their mark and the characters have come to life. While the ensemble cast is solid, and Macy is at his irascible best, it is the performance of three of the actors which makes Shameless something special.

Emmy Rossum, as the 'adult' glue that holds the family together, has rightly received the most press. Her role requires a combination of strength, resolve, humour and vulnerability - qualities that would thwart a lesser actress.

Rossum is able to convincingly bring it all together with fire and sexuality in addition to her other qualities. Equally effective in his role as the younger brother Lip, Jeremy Allen White brings a world-weary innocence to his character.

Together, they're a maladjusted family unit, tightly knit out of necessity and working overtime to preserve their own best interests. The show is a great satire of the sinister undercurrent of televangelism, and it's full of McBride's specific brand of big, broad comedy, which anyone who delights in watching Frank's scheme of the week on Shameless will surely appreciate.

Succession dares to ask the question, "What if Shameless , but rich? Succession is a true comedy of errors where every character is involved in a power struggle with someone else and nobody is afraid to stab someone else in the back to get ahead, but it must be said that the most fun part of the show is its twisted family dynamics.

Considering the clashing personality types at play — from miserable, power-hungry Kendall Jeremy Strong to cocky, immature Roman Kieran Culkin to cold, calculating Shiv Sarah Snook — it's not hard to understand why it's inspired so many memes.

Sometimes it's just fun to watch bad people behave badly, when it's all happening within the context of a fictional TV show. You're the Worst begins by mining familiar rom-com territory: boy and girl meet at a wedding and have what they both believe to be a one-night stand, which obviously becomes something more, and though it eventually grows into a thoughtful exploration of relationships, its premise isn't what will feel familiar to Shameless fans.

In case the show's title wasn't enough of an indication, the characters on this show are generally pretty terrible — episodes find them cheating on partners, stealing property, stabbing their spouses, and being relentlessly mean to each other — but You're the Worst is good about never letting them off the hook for it, and it makes sure they're always evolving. Where Shameless is interested in the ways damaged people can regress into familiar behaviors if they don't receive the proper help, You're the Worst finds comfort in the idea that damaged people can change for the better, so long as they're given the right tools to do it.

With issues that range from Gretchen's Aya Cash seasons-long battle with mental illness to Edgar's Desmin Borges post-war PTSD, You're the Worst says that the road to healing is never easy or finished, but it is possible. The premise of Good Girls kind of sounds like a scrapped Shameless plotline: Christina Hendricks , Mae Whitman , and Retta star as three working-class suburban moms exhausted by the never-ending struggle to make ends meet who decide to take control of their lives by robbing a local grocery store.

They pull it off, but that's not the end of the story. It's the aftermath of the crime that Good Girls is interested in, and the different ways the women react to it, such as Beth's Hendricks realization that life as a criminal is preferable to life as a mother struggling to pay the bills.

The desperate ways the trio attempt to keep their involvement in the heist a secret are like mini callbacks to the earlier, sillier days of Shameless , like when Debbie Emma Kenney was still stealing neighborhood babies and Frank was escaping debts by forcing his kids to throw him fake funerals. Good Girls is the kind of show that gets more fun to watch as the characters get in more trouble, so buckle up.

SMILF is all about the daily twists and turns of Bridgette's life as a young single mom working to secure a better life for her son. Like Fiona, that typically results in Bridgette becoming involved in ridiculous schemes, failing constantly, and, more often than not, finding herself torn between her own needs and the needs of her kid. Their lives continue. And that makes me feel good as a viewer and a reader. I think I have an idea about what would happen over the next few months, but I have no idea what would wholly happen.

In my mind, Lip gets a motorcycle shop and settles in and loses the neighborhood and becomes the new patriarch for that crazy family. But you can fill in the blanks however you want to fill in the blanks as a viewer. Whatever you think is right! I would have been interested in seeing the plight of this family without Frank and all that he brings hovering over their heads. Everything is getting a revival these days. There is nothing planned. But never say never.

But we get to tell a lot of great stories with these people and wonderful actors, writers and directors. You never know. Seeing Kevin and Vee in Louisville was a great window into a whole other world, too. I was also interested in Arthur guest star Josh Malina and Carl running the Alibi, it could have been funny as a cop bar story. Yes, absolutely. Beyond everything else in the show that people love, what I was always most attracted to was no matter how difficult things were, this was a group of people who loved each other and came together even when they were angry with each other.
